Oven-steamed spicy octopus

  • 1 octopus (about 2.2 – 3.3 lb)
  • 4 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 pinch of oregano
  • 1 spicy red pepper, diced
  • 4-5 whole black peppercorns
  • 2 large sheets of aluminum foil


  1. Rinse the octopus thoroughly and place in a bowl.
  2. Add the olive oil, pepper, peppercorns, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and oregano, and combine.
  3. Spread the sheets of foil into a cross shape on the counter and place the whole octopus in the middle.
  4. Douse with the juices from the bowl and seal the foil edges into a package – not too tightly, to allow space for the air to expand in the oven.
  5. Cook the octopus for about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes at 360°F, and serve.
